LEAD 499: Leadership Practice

  • 1 credit, AUT, WIN, SPR, SUM
  • Supports required leadership practice experience for Minor in Leadership. Supplements co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences including internships, research, field-based experiences, global engagements, and extra-curricular involvement.

Enrollment

  • To ensure you are prepared for the reflection required in LEAD 499, you must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in LEAD 100. 
  • The leadership experience used for LEAD 499 must be taken in the same quarter in which you are enrolled. If your experience is taking place in the summer, you must register for LEAD 499 in summer. 

Request a Seat in LEAD 499 (you must submit your request by the end of the first week of the quarter in which you are hpoing to enroll)

Leadership Practice Requirements

  • The experience must take place for at least one academic quarter for at least 30 hours total.
  • The experience must provide an opportunity to practice leadership within a shared context where you are developing and practicing leadership competencies. You cannot use an independent study experience, unless it is part of a team setting (ex. a research lab).
  • Research must be faculty-mentored or post-doctoral researchers.
  • Learning goals must be identified and articulated for each internship, research, field- based experience or extra-curricular involvement.
  • A mid-quarter check-in with supervisor is required, and a written final performance evaluation tied to the leadership competencies must be completed by a supervisor or proxy.

Leadership Practice Approval

  • Leadership Minor advisers will approve leadership practice experiences based on the above criteria.
  • Approved students will be enrolled in LEAD 499
